Double Breasted Peacoat for Toddler

I saw this fabric on sale for $2.99/m and couldn't resist making something....anything...out of it.  it's too bad I didn't buy more to make myself something, but never the less I made this peacoat for my daughter and it's just so charming!

Baby Three Point Jester Hat With Purple Pom Poms - Free Knitting Pattern

I just love this whimsical little jester hat with pom poms!  However, it does involve that crazy kitchener stitch and you would think that being married to my hubby who is from Kitchener would help.... it doesn't!  Words of advice, just chant to yourself while you are doing it (Knit, Purl, Purl, Knit).....

Here is my pattern for you all:
Finished size: Fits approx. 6-12 months old with a head circumference between 14-18 inches.
Materials:
- Yarn, medium worsted weight #4
- Circular needle in 6.0mm (US 10), 16 inches (40 cm) in length.
- Double point needles (DPNs) in 6.0mm (US10) size.
- A pom pom maker.
- Place marker.
- Wool or yarn needle

1) Cast on 48 Sts.
2) *K2, P2, repeat from * to end.  Repeat this until piece measures 1.5 inches.
3) K all sts for 3 rounds.
4) *K2tog, yo, repeat from * to end, ending with a yo.
5) K all sts for 5 rounds.
6) *K2tog, yo, repeat from * to end, ending with a yo.
7) Knit in Stockinette St until entire piece measures 6.5 inches from starting edge to your needle.
8) Transfer 8 stitches onto a dpn, then transfer the next 8 stitches onto a second dpn.  Leave the rest of the sts on the circular needle.
9) Start your kitchener stitch by:
     a. Take a long piece of yarn and thread it through the yarn needle.
     b. Hold both dpn together in one hand with the WS facing each other (RS facing outwards).
     c. Thread yarn Purlwise through 1st front loop.
     d. Thread yarn Knitwise through 1st back loop. (careful to keep the yarn below the needle).
     e. *Thread yarn Knitwise through the1st front loop and drop this st off the dpn.
     f. Thread yarn Purlwise through the next (2nd) front loop.
     g. Thread yarn Purlwise through 1st back loop and drop this st off the dpn.
     h. Thread yarn Knitwise through next (2nd) back loop.
     i. Repeat this from * until you have dropped all the stitches off both dpns.
10) Repeat Steps 8 and 9 twice so that you have 3 bound stitches, making the 3 points of the hat.
11) Weave all ends in.
12) Make 3 pom poms and attach to points.  Voila!

Baby Bolero - From Debbie Bliss Pattern

Ahhhh, this little baby bolero is a cute, simple, little thing.  I guess that's why everyone has knit one of their own from a free Debbie Bliss pattern available online!  Except that the pattern itself is kind of confusing and I got bored after awhile doing the stockinette stitch.  Anyways, you can find the free pattern online at:

http://www.http//www.allaboutyou.com/craft/baby-free-knitting-patterns/special

Bubble Gum Pink Cardigan

I have to admit, I did not have a fun time knitting this thing.  I dunno, maybe because I felt that the seed stitch pattern just wasn't turning out as well as I liked.  Maybe because I just don't like picking up stitches to form a border.... I dunno.  Either way, it's definitely a cute little sweater and to tell you the truth I didn't really follow a pattern.

Oh, I forgot to sew on the buttons, should be 3 buttons.

The 5-Hour Baby Sweater - Flower Embellishment - Free Knitting Pattern

Here it is again, the second attempt with the 5-hour baby sweater and this time I used a 3 worsted weight yarn so it wasn't so chunky, and then added the flower embellishments.  Plus, I modified the original one so that it was slightly longer in the body.

To make the flower accents, I followed a pattern by Dilys Sutherland, although I tried to find her website again and I couldn't!  Oh well, here's the pattern I used with my own modifications to change the size and petals counts:

Flowers:
1) Cast on 35 Sts.
2) Row 1: *K1, cast off 5 sts (1 remains on RH needle), repeat from * to end (10 Sts.)
3) Run yarn through remaining sts, draw up and fasten off.

Remember that each petal takes 7 stitches to make, therefore 5 petals=35 sts, 6 petals=42 sts, and so on.

Ahhh, The Famous 5-Hour Baby Cardigan

For some reason, anytime I knitted a sweater it never turned out.  It was either too chunky, not the right size, the pieces weren't lining up, etc. etc. the excuses go on.  but eventually I thought I should at least try to knit a sweater in one piece.  And I found this wonderful 5-hour baby cardigan knitting pattern which turns out there are tons of variations on it and it is knit all in one pice (Hooray!).  Great for a weekend knitting project (although my first attempt I timed in at 8 hours!)

I followed a pattern I found on this website:

http://www.bevscountrycottage.com/kp3.html

Thank you so much for making this available to the world!

Fun White Hat

This was a hat I made in the middle of thinking about cakes and cupcakes...mmm...sweet.

Baby Snowboarding Hat

So I ended up actually buying a knitting book (which I never used to do, I would either go to the library or surf the net) and I found a great baby hat with ear flaps.  I modified it a little bit for the decreasing top part so that it pleated a little bit and this is what I got.

Upside Down Flower Hat - Free Knitting Pattern

This idea came from seeing a knitted hat with a flower on top.  I ended up doing an upside down version of it and used a Lion Brand pattern for an Apple Hat to knit the pink petals and stems.  I used a circular needle for the hat and straight needles for the rest.

How to make the upside down flower hat:

With yellow yarn, cast on 56 (62, 66) sts.
Rows 1-6 Work in St st.
Change to white yarn. Work in St st for 22 (24, 26) rows.

Shape Top
Row 1 (RS) K 1 (1, 0), *k 4, k2tog; rep from * 8 (9, 10) times, end k 1 (1 ,0) – 47 (52, 55) sts.
Rows 2, 4 and 6 Purl.
Row 3 K 1 (1, 0), *k 3, k2tog; rep from * 8 (9, 10) times, end k 1 (1, 0) – 38 (42, 44) sts.
Row 5 K 1 (1, 0), *k 2, k2tog; rep from * 8 (9,10) times, end k 1 (1, 0) – 29 (32, 33) sts.
Row 7 K 1 (0, 1), *k2tog; rep from * 6 (7, 7) times – 15 (16, 17) sts.
Row 8 *P2tog; rep from * 6 (7, 6) times, end p 1 (0, 0), p3tog 0 (0, 1) time – 8 sts.
Row 9 Knit 1 row.
Next Row (WS) With B and double-pointed needles, p2tog across – 4 sts.
Break yarn and pull through all sts.

Petals-Make 5
Cast on 4 sts (leaving 4-5" tail) with pink yarn.
Row 1: (RS) Knit in front and back loop of first stitch (increasing one stitch), k3 (5sts).
Row 2: Knit in front and back loop of first stitch (increasing one stitch), p4 (6sts). (At same time, anchor tail thread by knitting/purling it along with 3-4 stitches.)
Row 3: Knit in front and back loop of first stitch (increasing one stitch), k5 (7sts).
Row 4: Knit in front and back loop of first stitch (increasing one stitch), p6 (8sts). Cut yarn and leave sts on needle, leaving 4-5" tail.
Stem

With green yarn, work Knitted Cord on these 4 sts until Stem measures 2” [5 cm].
Next Row K2tog twice; turn – 2 sts.
Next Row P2tog – 1 st.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining st; pull to tighten.

LEAF – Make 2
With green yarn, cast on 9 sts.
Rows 1, 3 and 5 K 3, k3tog, k 3 – 7 sts.
Rows 2 and 4 Knit into front and back of first st (kfb), k 2, p 1, k 2, knit into front and back of last st – 9 sts.
Row 6 K 3, p 1, k 3.
Row 7 K 2, k3tog, k 2 – 5 sts.
Row 8 K 2, p 1, k 2.
Row 9 K 1, k3tog, k 1 – 3 sts.
Row 10 K 1, p 1, k 1.
Row 11 K3tog – 1 st.
Cut yarn, leaving a long tail. Thread tail through remaining st; pull to tighten.

Strawberry Hat - Loom Method

This hat was one of my many experiments knitting on a loom.  It was quick and easy, except that for the stem and leaves I needed to do those on straight needles.

Baby Set of Booties and Hat - Free Knitting Pattern

This is one of my baby sets that I made.  The booties are the same pattern as the "Easy Baby Booties" pattern and the hat was knit with a garter stitch rim and a dot stitch pattern for the main head on a straight set of needles.  I now realize that everyone's got their own version of a "dot stitch pattern".  I ended up using this one.  Thing with this dot stitch pattern is that it can only be done on a multiple of 4 stitches.

Here is my pattern if you like to make the hat:

Worsted weight Yarn in Main Color (A) and Contrasting Color (B) for rim
Set of 4.5mm straight needles.

1) Cast on 44 Stitches
2) Work in Garter Stitch for 6 rows in B Color.
3) Switch to A Color and work in Dot Stitch pattern as follows:
Row 1: K1 *P1, K3 repeat from * to last 2 sts, P1, K1.
Row 2: K all sts.
Row 3: *K3, P1 repeat from * to last 3 sts, K3.
Row 4: K all sts.
4) Continue dot stitch pattern until main head piece measure 5 inches (not including Garter St. rim).
5) Break yarn and weave through all remaining sts on needle, pull tight, sew up edges.

Easy Baby Booties - Free Knitting Pattern

I found a wonderful pattern for a much quicker and simpler baby bootie.  Except I modified it a little bit to have a slightly wider stockinette stitch top foot and also a ribbed ankle band that has a contrasting color edge.  I have made lots of these and given them as baby gifts with a matching baby hat.  The original pattern can be found here by Michelle:

http://ooobabyknits.typepad.com/ooo_baby_knits/2005/02/mindless_knitti.html

Here is the pattern with my modifications shown in RED if you like to make your very own:

You will need:

Yarn: worsted weight
Needles: Size US8 or 5.0mm straight needles
Notions: Yarn needle
Directions:
1) CO 33 st.
2) K 12 rows.
3) Begin decreases for instep:
Row 1: K 12, K2tog, K5, SSK, K across.
Row 2: P 11, P2tbl, P5, P2tog, P across.
Continue decrease pattern until 21 st remain.
4) Work in K1, P1 rib for 10 rows.
5) Using a contrasting color, Work in K1, P1 rib for 2 more rows.
6) Bind off, leaving a 12 inch tail to sew booties up.
7) Fold piece in half right sides facing each other and whip stitch booties closed.

If you like this pattern I have also designed a super easy booties pattern shown below.  Perfect for beginner knitters and baby shower gifts!  Knitted all in one piece   Just click on the link below to get the pattern:

Booties 02

My second attempt with the same pattern by Erika Knight except I wanted to add come color coordination to the pattern.

Booties 01

This was my first attempt at making baby booties.  I found a great book by Erika Knight and dug up my memories of knitting in Elementary school (with a little help from the internet too!).
